Method 1: Measure a ring you already own
This is usually the easiest method if you already have a ring that fits the same finger well.
- Choose a ring that fits the finger you plan to wear the new ring on.
- Place the ring flat on a ruler.
- Measure the inside diameter straight across the centre of the ring, from inner edge to inner edge.
- Measure in millimetres and compare the result with the chart above.
Do not measure the outside edge of the ring, because the band thickness will make the result too large.
Method 2: Measure your finger
You can also measure around the finger using a narrow strip of paper or a non-stretch measuring tape.
- Wrap the strip around the base of the finger where the ring will sit.
- Keep it comfortably snug rather than tight.
- Mark where the ends meet.
- Measure the marked length in millimetres.
- Repeat the measurement two or three times to reduce error.
Finger size can change slightly during the day. For a more reliable result, measure when your hands are at a normal, comfortable temperature rather than immediately after exercise or when your hands are very cold.
What if you are between ring sizes?
If your measurement falls between two available sizes, the better choice depends on the ring and how you like it to fit. A wider band can feel tighter than a fine band, while fingers with a larger knuckle may need enough room for the ring to pass comfortably over the knuckle.
